Spring is Here!

For the last week the weather here has been beautiful. We thought that the 50's were feeling good, but now we have been reminded of how good the 60's feel. Today was near 70 and more warm weather and sunshine in the forecast. Today we spent much of the day outside trying to soak up all the rays we missed throughout the winter.

We went to a park on base to play.

We love spring and hope this lasts. Eternal winter is just around the corner!

Megan's Kuspuk

The Native Alaskan women and girls here sometimes wear a traditional kuspuk. They are a light weight "parka" that is worn during the summer time. They are usually made in bright prints. The little girls are so cute in them.

So I decided that I needed to make Megan one. She isn't a Native Alaskan, but she survived a winter here, so I think that that counts for something!

Ice Fishing

Curtis and some guys from work went ice fishing the other day. Yes...the lakes are still frozen over!
The caught a whole bunch of little trout.

Now they are in our freezer waiting to fry up for supper!

Happy Easter

We took the kids to the BX's Easter egg hunt on Saturday. Only the younger two were able to get eggs, but Jake and Nick were glad to help. It was a huge buildup to about a minute and a half of searching. But they didn't seem too dissappointed. Megan wouldn't have anything to do with the Easter bunny, but Caleb snuck around him to pull his little tail.

Before church this morning. They were not cooperating, so this was the best I could get. Too much candy I suppose!

Neverending Snow

Yes, I know it is spring. I hate that the rest of you are seeing grass and new buds. We are still having winter! It has been nice though lately. The forecast is calling for high 30's and low 40's for high temps this week! This snow just might melt away.
Jake and Nick were out today building a snowman. The snow is now wet enough to stick together. It was 35 degrees out so it was a heat wave--who needs coats?

Pinewood Derby

On Wednesday evening the scouts held their Pinewood Derby. This was Jake's first year to participate. He decided that he wanted to make a truck with flames on it.

He raced several times. His car was fast....but not fast enough! He ranked in the middle of all the cars.
His car did win the Coolest Car award! His face beamed all night!!

Mom, What's For Dinner?

Caleb decided that he wanted some chicken noodle soup for dinner. That was fine with me since Curtis was at work and I didn't have to make the decision of what to make. The problem was that it was only 4:oo and not yet dinner time.
When I did not get promptly to work making dinner, Caleb set up some stools to change the time. When he had moved to clock to 5, he came down to tell me that it was now "time for dinner!"
And yes, this is him....standing on my piano. Thanks for keeping it exciting for us, Caleb!

World Ice Art Championships

We went to the World's Ice Art Exhibit. It was held here in Fairbanks. The day was somewhat warm so it was enjoyable. There were about 100 ice sculptures.
We were able to get on some of the sculptures and take pictures. Jake took this one. We need to have a talk about cutting off heads!
Some sculptures were actually slides for the kids. They had tons of fun. There was also a few mazes and some saucers that spun around til the boys got too dizzy.
This was a huge slide. There were a couple of times I thought the boys were going to leave with some sore tailbones. The slides were obviously very hard, but the boys didn't mind. I guess it was too thrilling to slide down so fast.
We left and got some dinner, then came back when it got dark to see them all lit up. They were beautiful. The pictures certainly don't do justice.

Snowboarding again

Curtis finally received the claim money from his stolen snowboard. He bought a new board and hit the slopes with a friend and some guys from work. He was so excited to finally go. Here are a few pictures that his friend took of him out there. I know Nick wanted to see some.

Caleb's Birthday

Today is the big day! Caleb finally had his birthday; he has been waiting for this day for awhile. We actually celebrated it yesterday since Curtis was on shift today. He chose a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting with Valentines on it....I honestly don't know why. I asked him several times thinking that he might come up with a different idea, but he stuck with it! Sometimes I would love to get into his crazy little mind.

He asked for a storm trooper helmet, and would also not budge on that. I thought that the Star Wars phase was over, but apparently not.
Here he is all dressed up. He took it to class today for "Show and Tell". It was a hit!
