Jake's Birthday

Jake turned 7 on August 28th. He is big into Star Wars this year. He wanted a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting with Star Wars on it. I could handle the cake part, but the Star Wars part got handed over to Curtis. He did a pretty good job.

Family Pictures

We decided to go in before Curtis left and get a family picture taken. It went a little more smoothly than expected(Caleb doesn't like getting his picture taken!) But Megan wouldn't crack a smile for anything! But we won't complain, at least she isn't bawling.
For anyone that is interested, Curtis will leave here on Sept. 5th. But he will be starting his own blog page in UAE. We will let you know when it is up and running.

First Day of School

Today was the first day back to school. Jake is in 2nd grade and Nick is in Kindergarten. They were so excited, even though Nick had a tough time when he first got there, but was fine once he got to his classroom. I miss them. I seem to run out of things to do when they are gone, I guess I function better when I feel swamped!!

Sally

Our friends' cat had kittens. Jacob has wanted one of these kittens since they were born. So he started to save all his money to buy the things needed for a cat. And when the kittens were old enough, they gave Jake a kitten. He named her Sally.
Sally lives in Jake's room(Nick doesn't want her on his bed!!) She loves his room but prefers to sleep in the laundry sorter outside his room in the hallway. I like it because now I can't disturb her to do laundry!!P.S. Jack Sparrow, the little bird, didn't make it. He put up a good fight, but wasn't strong enough. He was buried at the Fire Station with a proper memorial.

Saving The Bird

Jacob came upon a baby bird in the yard yesterday. Curtis helped move it to a safer location(a cat was near it). So Curtis(who I affectionately call the "Bird Whisperer") has taken it upon himself to save the bird. He cuts up worms and feeds it with needlenose pliers. So far it is still alive. The Bird Whisperer took it to work with him for the next 48 hours since I am not interested in this crusade. Hopefully the bird will get make it until it is ready to live on its own.

Truman Lake

We went camping this week down to Truman Lake. We went with another family. It was a great time. Way too hot and way too humid, but fun. Another friend came down the last day and brought his boat. The kids had a great time bouncing around on the tube. Nick did the most amazing trick of the day, bounding 10 feet in the air and still landing on the tube. He couldn't have done it again if he tried. I also tubed, and woke up this morning with every muscle in my body aching. Maybe I should hit the gym!!

Jake is posing with his girls. He is into being"tough" in pictures. Scary, huh?
